Cycling Apps

I’m not a great one for messing about on my smart phone; I want a phone and a camera really. Access to Facebook and Twitter is nice but not the raison d’ĂȘtre as being a web butterfly it wastes more of my time when I could be finishing the bathroom. Wednesday evening faffing on the computer a twitter acquaintance was somewhat miffed that she couldn’t download the Flanders Classics App too her Sony Ericsson Xperia. Intrigued I had a look as we both have the same phone. It downloaded fine but we both ended up with a problem. She can’t download it and mine is in Dutch! The other way around this would not be a problem as she’s Dutch and I don’t really need the App. This doesn’t mean I’m going to delete it. No over five weekends of the classics I shall send my phone bill through the roof when I should just kick back and watch them on Eurosport.

Now the Track World Cup starts today and an App similar to this for the World cup events would be great for those of us who had an epic fail on getting tickets. London is an Olympic test event and getting tickets has been up to LOCOG standards going on the letters and emails in the cycling press. Being able to have mobile or even a small window on your computer screen giving info would be good. Video is not required; most events just need a result and position table but if you can make a graphic for pursuits, scratch and Madisons. By ‘you’ I mean the App developers in their darkened rooms and no we don’t need the Apple version exclusively. It’s the third most popular operating system, most of the real world have Android and Crackberry overtook the media tarts system of choice last year. I realise it is too late for this season and, unless you are a genius at acquiring rights, the Olympics but come on let’s get in there for Grand Tours, World Cups and World Champs.
